 STATE NEWS

Gov. Snyder Delivers State of the State Address
In his first State of the State address delivered Wednesday night, Governor Rick Snyder focused on rebuilding Michigan by setting clear, measurable goals. He identified job creation as his number one priority and discussed the need for improving the delivery of health care in Michigan - namely increasing access to health care, incentivizing preventive medicine, and encouraging medical students to choose general medicine over specialties. Governor Snyder avoided specifics about the state budget as he will present his budget proposal in mid-February.  (Last Friday during the state's Revenue Estimating Conference, economists projected a general fund deficit between $1.5 billion and $2 billion.)  During the address Governor Snyder also rolled out the Michigan Dashboard which will measure the state against benchmarks on a series of statistics from health care to education.  He promised to provide updates in each of his future state of the state addresses on how Michigan is progressing on each measure included in the "dashboard". Click here to watch a replay of the State of the State Address on WKAR-TV which MPCA co-sponsored.
