Annual Health Check-Up Highlights Healthiest, Least Healthy Counties in Michigan
The second annual County Health Rankings released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute this week show that where people live matters to their health. The health of a community and its residents depends on many different factors, including health behaviors, education and jobs, quality of health care, and environment.  More

Health Center Advocates Urged to Stay Active As Final Budget Negotiations Continue
As Congressional negotiations regarding the FY 2011 budget reach a critical point, it is vital that you stay in contact with your Members of Congress. Please reinforce the message that they should oppose any cuts to Health Center funding and keep discretionary funding for the Health Centers Program whole at $2.19 billion. You can call your Members of Congress using the toll-free NACHC Advocacy Hotline at 1.866.456.7200 and/or send a message through NACHC's Grassroots Actions Center.  

 

HHS, CMS Release Proposed ACO Regulations

HHS and CMS released proposed regulations for accountable care organizations (ACOs) on Thursday. Click here to read an HHS press release. Click here to read the regulations in their entirety. 

 

Medicare Attestation Begins April 18
Attestation for the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program begins April 18. In order for eligible professionals, eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals to receive Medicare EHR incentive payment, they must attest through CMS' web-based Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs Registration and Attestation System.  More

 
ONC Accepting Public Comment on Federal Health IT Strategic Plan
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is accepting public comment through April 22 on the Federal Health IT Strategic Plan: 2011-2015. This plan is an important tool for guiding national efforts and investments in HIT over the next five years. More

Another Door Opening to Health Care in Jackson County (MPCA Blog)
The contractors are putting the finishing touches on the new Jackson High Health Center and the Jackson Public Schools Fitness Center, which will open to Jackson County students and residents on April 15. With the support of many individuals, businesses, and foundations, the Jackson Public School District and the Center for Family Health partnered to bring this School-Based Health Center project to fruition.  More

Cherry Street Health Services Just Shy of Meeting Matchable Campaign Goal
Cherry Street Health Services is pleased to announce the great progress they have made in their $4.1 million Capital Campaign for the new Heart of the City Health Center. They are now just $320,000 shy of meeting their goal. The Heart of the City Health Center will provide improvements to pediatric services, present a model for the integration of physical and behavioral health care, and is expected to serve 27,000 patients. Construction is proceeding as planned and the building is taking its full shape in downtown Grand Rapids. As a welcome addition to the neighborhood, the new center opens in September of this year. More
